China’s First Zero-Carbon Rubber Antioxidant was Born

In May 2022, the rubber antioxidant products 6PPD and TMQ of Sinopec Nanjing Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. obtained the carbon footprint certificate and carbon neutralization product certificates 010122001 and 010122002 issued by the international authoritative certification company TüV South Germany Group, becoming the first rubber antioxidant carbon neutralization product in China to obtain international certification.

At the beginning of this year, the company entrusted Environmental Protection Bridge (Shanghai) Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. and TüV South Germany to carry out the carbon footprint and carbon neutral product certification of the above two products.

According to the national standard and relevant evaluation specifications, From the aspects of raw and auxiliary materials acquisition, production, sales, consumer use and final disposal, the full life cycle carbon footprint of these two products was calculated and evaluated.

The environmental bridge company has provided international voluntary carbon emission reduction indicators to offset the carbon emissions of products, and issued the carbon emission offset certificate of products. T ü V South Germany has carried out carbon neutralization product certification according to relevant demonstration specifications.

The rubber antioxidant 6PPD and TMQ produced by Sinopec Nanjing Chemical Company are applied to the manufacturing of aircraft, commercial vehicles, passenger car tyres and pressure cooker sealing rings.

With the development of zero-carbon rubber antioxidant as a breakthrough, Sinopec Nanjing Chemical Company has promoted the gradual realization of zero-carbon and high-efficiency sustainable development. By comparing the carbon footprint data of raw materials, production, use and waste processes of products, they find out the key factors affecting the carbon footprint of products, upgrade the production technology and transform the production process and optimize the supply chain, so as to achieve the goals of energy conservation, consumption reduction and emission reduction.

They have continued to carry out the new process route of the rubber antioxidant intermediate RT Bath and the optimization and upgrading of the rubber antioxidant TMQ process, shortening the production process route of RT Bath, reducing the “three wastes” and greatly improving the product quality. The antioxidant TMQ has maintained the rate of excellent products of 100% for 20 consecutive years.

During this period, after carefully sorting out the design and operating parameters, and formulating the corresponding energy-saving plan, the company completed the energy-saving transformation of 93 fans and water pumps in operation, investigated the use of steam traps, and screened and replaced 10 large flow steam traps in the Rubber Chemicals Department.

In addition, the company carried out special rectification of on-site energy conservation management, completed the rectification of 10 long steam emission points, revised and improved the “Detailed Rules for Thermal Insulation Management of Sinopec Nanjing Chemical Company”, and built a standardized device for thermal insulation management of antioxidant 6PPD device, etc., so that the energy consumption of rubber antioxidant products decreased year by year. According to statistics, the energy consumption of rubber antioxidant products is 35.8% lower than that at the beginning of the “13th Five-Year Plan”, which is the best in history.
